Been awhile since I posted…much has happened. Life is funny that way.
In our first issue of Calgary Dog Life Magazine we featured local Calgarian, Jose Neto, and his guide dog Leo. Jose first moved to Calgary from Brazil to attend business school. In 2008, he was struck in the head by a stray bullet from a nearby altercation. He was left permanently blind.
You know it’s not your time to leave this earth when you survive something like that. Not only survive; Jose has thrived. His guide dog Leo has been a part of that journey, and it was incredibly inspiring to meet and photograph both of them.
I heard something recently that really resonated…..
“You cannot make something turn out the way you want it to, but you can achieve anything you truly desire.” ~ G. Douglas
Life changes. Life changes us. It doesn’t show up how we may expect. In fact …it usually shows up completely different than we thought it would. This has been my experience. We can still get up. We can still achieve things that we truly desire. And many times, that involves having a dog to help us see the way.
For me, this is what Jose’s story truly represents.
